 LIFT PRIVILEGES

Q: What do I need to purchase a lift ticket using CMFC privileges?
A. The best way to purchase a ticket is to use a current Membership Card (it is white plastic, with the CM logo in a blue box in the upper left corner). The old cards (white plastic with logo in green/yellow) have not been valid for several years. Transferees must use Membership Cards as well. Membership Cards are permanent from year to year and are valid only when privileges are activated and transferred.

The other way to purchase a ticket is to use a current season Charge Authorization Form which contains the member's account number (last 5 digits) and original signature.

Please do not go to the Mountain without a current Membership Card or Charge Authorization Form - you cannot purchase a ticket without one of these items.

Q. What is the Crystal Mountain Founders Club?
A.
It is a social organization which was developed at the time that the Crystal Mountain corporation sold to a privately held corporation, Crystal Mountain, Inc., in 1998.  Its membership consists of the former shareholders who elected to convert a portion of each share they held in the corporation into a membership unit in the Club.

Q. Does owning a membership unit offer any advantage?
A.
Yes.  As part of the sale contract, Crystal Mountain, Inc. agreed to honor lift privileges based on ownership of Club membership units.  Each membership unit represents the equivalent of one adult daily lift ticket.  A minimum of 20 Club membership units must be owned in order to activate and convert Club membership units into daily tickets.  This is no different than the benefit the former shareholders had with the publicly held company.

Q. How are the Club membership units activated?
A.
Sometime in August of each year Crystal Mountain publishes the daily adult lift ticket price.  The Club administration then informs its Membership of that amount and sends out lift activation packages.

Q. Is there a cut off point where I lose the ability to use my lift privileges?
A.
Yes.   This may change from time to time, but the generally rule is that October 31 is the deadline by which the member can pay the dues which activates lift privileges.  Failure to pay by October 31 eliminates the ability of the member to activate lift privileges for that ski year. 

Q. Is there a cost associated with activating lift privileges?
A. Yes.  That cost is presently based on 10% of the daily lift ticket price.  A member must own a minimum of 20 membership units before that member can activate lift privileges.  For example, if the daily adult lift ticket is set at $40, a member holding 20 membership units would be entitled to $800 worth of lift privileges.  In order to acquire those lift privileges, the member would complete the activation forms which are provided by the Club and submit those along with payment in the amount of $80. 

Q. What if I own membership units in excess of 20, but less than
another 20 unit block, may I activate those?

A. Yes.  The minimum amount that can be activated is 20.  Any number in excess of 20 owned by the member may be activated.  The minimum requirement of unit activation is 20. 

Q. May I pay the activation fee with a credit card?
A.  No.  The Club will accept checks or money orders and would prefer that the member not send cash.

Q. Are there any restrictions on use of tickets once activated?
A. Yes. The Club Bylaws and our agreement with Crystal Mountain, Inc. prohibit a member to engage " . . . in the business of commercial sale of Club issued lift tickets or transfers [of] Club issued lift tickets to a person or entity the Club member [knows] to be engaged in such business . . . , as is any sale in the Crystal Mountain permit area".    Sanctions for violation of this provision can include suspension for a year or expulsion from the Club. There is a due process procedure provided for in the Bylaws.  

As a precaution a member should consider the inadvertent sale.  An example that comes to mind is that a child of a member uses the card to get a ticket and then sells it to a friend who came to the mountain with him.  All of this would usually occur in the Crystal Mountain permit area.  Be mindful of the rule and make certain that family members using the card for tickets understand the consequences.
